Relationship & Couples Counselling
You might be feeling a lack of respect or love from your partner, be dissatisfied with your sex life, feel distanced from your partner or experience a lack trust in your partner. These experiences and others can suggest that your relationship needs some support.
Deciding to seek the help of a couples and relationship therapist can be a difficult decision and a big step. You may be feeling ashamed about needing some help or feel uncomfortable talking about what you have done. The Emotional Focused Therapy (EFT) technique is collaborative and respectful, and shifts blame away from individuals and instead focuses on identifying negative patterns and ways of overcoming them.
When individuals in a relationship are not able to meet each others emotional needs, they become stuck in their negative patterns of interaction driven by ineffective attempts to get each other to understand their emotions and needs.
The EFT approach includes elements of experiential therapy (such as person-centered therapy and Gestalt therapy), systemic therapy, and attachment theory.
When you meet with your counsellor, we will begin with focusing on your relationships strengths and difficulties and your family histories. This assessment will help us to get a full and comprehensive understanding of your negative cycles of communication. Most couples will require at least 4 to 6 sessions of therapy before being in a position to decide if couples and relationship counselling is right for them.
